Vilagrad Winery, established in 1922 by Ivan Milicich Snr, stands as a testament to over a century of winemaking excellence in New Zealand’s Waikato region. Now in its fifth generation of family ownership, the winery has evolved into a premier destination for wine enthusiasts, food lovers, and those seeking a unique venue for special occasions.

A Legacy of Winemaking

The Milicich family’s journey began in 1893 when Ivan Milicich Snr emigrated from Podgora on the Dalmatian coast of Croatia to New Zealand. By 1922, he had established a vineyard and obtained a license to produce and sell wine, laying the foundation for what would become Vilagrad Winery. Today, the winery is managed by Pieter and Nelda Nooyen, along with their sons, who continue to honor traditional winemaking methods while embracing modern techniques.

These wines have garnered an impressive 105 medals and awards over the past two decades, underscoring the family’s dedication to quality and excellence.

Beautiful venue however on a hot sunny day the heat inside is unbearable. It's like being inside plastic hothouse, it must have been over 30° inside last Sunday. With only a couple of fans to blow the hot air around. Food was ok but not enough selection for the $65 per person price tag. Staff were pleasant enough but not overly friendly (I prob wouldn't be either working in that heat). Not somewhere I would probably return to.

Food was fine but over priced for a basic buffet lunch. Very hot and stuffy venue, need more fans. Also got charged $25 for a broken water glass, we had spent over 2k so to be charged that much for a water glass worth $2 left us with a bad taste. Would not return.
